I once had a customer who carved faces into natural wood. His problem was that too many people were asking for his artwork and he couldn’t produce it fast enough. So he got the idea of having me make of mold of his wooden piece, so that he could pour the design in hydrastone. Continue reading When and How can you use molds? Hydrocal is a harder plaster than pottery plaster #1 (which just happens to be plaster of paris) but not as hard as Hydrostone. There are also specialty plasters with fibers and I’ll see about adding some links and information about where to find that. I used to have a wonderful plaster dealer in my home town but they’ve since, closed and the local pottery supply now has the dealership. As I was checking the traffic for this site, I was amazed at the search words used to find it. Most of them questions and yet nobody goes to the trouble to post a reply here, to ask those questions. hmm Basically, you have 3 varieties of hardness. Pottery plaster, hydrocal and hydrostone.
